Mega-Max Doberman's

History and development
During the next 20 years Doberman added several other crosses of German Shepherds, German shorthairs, German Pinschers (terriers) Great Danes and possibly the Beauceron and several others have been mentioned. Little records were kept and almost no details are known during this period other than Dobermans dogs were becoming well known for the attributes so prized by the visionary work of Louis Dobermann. Many others continued the work Doberman started after his untimely death in 1891. Otto Goeller, Goswin Tischler Kennels of Theuringen  and Groenland and later Ilm Athen, Aprath and Silberburg kennnels the leaders. Rough looking and not quite standard dogs were truely developed thru the cooperation of these main contributors. It is widely believed the addition of Manchester terrier and Greyhound was used to refine the dogs further. The results of which was a somewhat standardized breed by the first world war. During and after WW1 many dogs were exported mainly to the US. The Doberman barely survived this time and only through the heroic efforts of these founders they did. The German kennels were reduced to a handful of dogs and much of the genetic diversity was lost. This is about the time you see many top Kennels in the US established.

By the time of WW2 the German and US military recognized the value of these dogs and incorporated them into the services for many uses. Again decimating the recovered German dogs. At the same time in the US the Doberman was  becoming known outside of the show and hobbyist circles. It is said many GI's while serving in Europe shipped dogs home to the US and by the end of the 40's the dobes were expiriensing a boom in popularity is the US. With such popularity and interest and the ever increasing supply of great stock the US breeders were now producing some fine dogs. These early American dogs we awesome dogs. The next 20 years was the golden age so many great dobes and a huge boom in popularity.  This is about the time we really see the development of the American variety of Doberman . Tall, thin a fine boned dog, sleek and elegant as the head became smaller and sharper features. Bodies became more angular. Temperaments mellowed..

The Doberman is unique in it's development to the extreme. Her Dobermann's dogs, the foundations of the breed have little resemblance to the modern Doberman's. Even though the dogs are we're established as a breed in 1890 in Germany a dog of true standard really wasn't seen until about 1910. The doberman could have been as easily named Schnuppes as this was the dog that lead to the original inspiration for Dobermann. Schnuppe was a small local mongrel probably a cross of a unknown terrier and the local Theuringin Shepherd (foundation for the German Shepherds among others) Schnuppe was a game dog spirited and ferousious. Accordining to the most reliable accounts Schnuppe was bred to a local rottweiller type dog another mongrel called a "butchers dog" These were a rugged black and tan commonly used as guard dogs. Doberman kept a couple of the offspring from this breeding as his foundation.
